I offer an initial 30-minute consultation, either in person or over the telephone, at no charge to you. This is so that we can determine if my services are a good fit for your needs, and if you believe you will feel comfortable revealing sensitive material to me. There is no obligation to engage in therapy after this consultation.
Frequency and length of sessions
Most people come to therapy once a week for a 50-minute session. I find that weekly sessions are optimal for the beginning stages of therapy. I ask that you come at least weekly for the first 4-6 weeks, so that we can establish a solid foundation upon which to work. After the first 4-6 weeks, therapeutic or financial issues may dictate more frequent or less frequent appointments. I do my best to work with you to determine the optimal schedule for your needs.
For Financial RecoverySM
Counseling, we may schedule longer sessions for specific purposes, but most sessions will be weekly for 50 minutes. As with therapy clients, I ask that new clients come at least weekly for the first 4-6 weeks. I also offer telephone sessions for Financial RecoverySM
Fees and Payment
The fee for individual psychotherapy or Financial RecoverySM
counseling is $120.00 per 50-minute session and $100.00 per hour for extended sessions after the first hour. I offer a 5% discount for weekly clients who pay in full at the beginning of the month. I am available for telephone ‘check-in’ sessions in crisis situations, which are billed at the usual rates. Telephone conversations less than 10 minutes of duration are not charged, unless you need them on an ongoing basis.
I ask for full payment at the beginning of each session. I take cash or checks at the time of your session. If you prefer to pay by credit card, I offer PayPal. I ask that you submit your fee by PayPal at least 24 hours before your scheduled session.
(Note: You do not have to have or login to a Paypal account to pay by credit/check card. Just click the button/link on the left-hand side of the Paypal login page which says Continue
In general, I do not accept managed care coverage (HMO, PPO). This is mainly for ethical and confidentiality reasons. If you have questions about this, I would be happy to discuss it with you further.
If you have health insurance that reimburses you for therapy sessions, I will provide you a monthly statement to submit to your insurance provider. Before calling for an initial consultation or appointment, you should find out the following information from your insurance carrier:
- Does my insurance plan include mental health benefits?
- What is my deductible for mental health? Is my mental health deductible part of my overall medical deductible?
- How much does my insurance cover per therapy session?
- How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
